In 1991 Bob Benyas donated the negatives of the photographs that he had taken for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit from 1953-1996 to the Jewish Community Archives. Benyas recorded Federation activities such as annual meetings, campaign events, and many of the dignitaries that visited the Jewish community in Detroit in the latter half of the 20th century. Benyas also took photographs at many of the Federation
agencies and at the Jewish Book Fair.
Bob Benyas was a freelance photographer for the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press and then started with Jack Kaufman Benyas-Kaufman Photographers Inc. He was the official photographer for the League of Catholic Women, the Michigan State Fair and the Detroit Auto Show. He was hired by the Jewish Welfare Federation (now Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit) to document events from the 1950s to 1990s.
