The bulk of the collection consists of biographical material of Dr. Weiner, as well as his ancestors. A large majority of materials are about Morris Weiner, father of Dr. Weiner. There is also information on the Lemberg family, maiden name of Dr. Gershon's mother, Phyllis. The folders are arranged alphabetically by person.
Dr. Gershon Ralph Weiner was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 12, 1935 to Morris and Phyllis Weiner. He had one sister, Helen Weiner, born c1940. Dr. Weiner attended Wayne State University, attaining his B.S. in 1955. He joined the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain.
Later, Dr. Weiner attended Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine & Surgery, and completed an internship at Mount Clemens General Hospital in Michigan from 1963-1964. He was one of the few university trained physiatrists and diagnostic electromyographers in the osteopathic profession. His residency and fellowship was funded by a federal government grant and was completed at Wayne State University School of Medicine from 1971-1974.
In 1956, Dr. Weiner married Myra Levenson. He remarried in 1976 to Jeannie Weiner. Dr. Gershon had four children: Bruce Weiner, Sandra Mishory, Joel Jackson, and Stuart Weiner. He was also a grandfather and great-grandfather. Dr. Weiner died on October 23, 2013.
